Antonio is Maria´s ex-boyfriend. He is a pilot and is living in Barcelona. He still likes Maria and calls her to try and persuade her to come to a concert with him in Seville.
The following is their telephone conversation.
Maria: Hello, Maria speaking.
Antonio: Hello Maria, It´s Antonio. Do you remember me?
Maria: Sure Antonio! How nice to hear from you! It´s been such a long time since I´ve heard from you.
Antonio: Yes Maria a long time, perhaps too long. (Silence)
Maria: So, what´s up? Have you got some news for me?
Antonio: No Maria, no news, but I was just thinking about the good times we had when we were together and how it´s a pity we couldn´t just be friends at least! What do you think?
Maria: I know, I agree with you.
Antonio: Well, I have an idea. On Monday I’m flying to Seville and I’m spending two days in the city and as Madonna’s in concert there on the Tuesday why don’t we go together? What do you think?
Maria: Umm, I don’t know Antonio. I’m in Malaga so I’d have to catch a train or drive…..it’s not so easy.
Antonio: Don’t worry about that, I can leave a flight ticket in Malaga airport for you. You can fly to Seville the night before and you can stay in a flat of a friend of mine. He’s away and is offering it to me for the week. It’s a great opportunity isn’t it?
Maria: I don’t know Antonio, Manolo is away all the week at a conference in Scotland and I don’t think he’d be too happy about this trip.
Antonio: Well, it would be a shame if you can’t go. Did I mention that I have two guest passes for backstage and the after concert party?
Maria: Really! Who’ll be there?
Antonio: Famous people I suppose. Apparently Madonna only goes to these things for an hour or two.
Maria: Really! Madonna! Wow!! Perhaps, what Manolo doesn’t know, won’t worry him…………

Manolo: Excuse me, Miss! Can you help me?
Alice: Yes of course. What do you need, Sir?
Manolo: I have a terrible headache.
Alice: Oh dear! I always get headaches too, when I fly. I usually take a marvellous painkiller called “mata pain”. Do you want one?
Manolo: Oh yes please!
Alice: I´ll bring it to you right away.
Manolo: Oh, I don´t know how to thank you!
10 minutes later
Alice: Are you feeling better now, Sir?
Manolo: Much better, thanks to you! And please, call me Manolo.
Alice: Ok, and I’m Alice. Nice to meet you Manolo. How long are you staying in Scotland?
Manolo: A week, I think.
Alice: You think!
Manolo: Well, it depends on my work, but I intend to enjoy my free time too. What would you recommend I do in Edinburgh?
Alice: Well actually, I´m from Edinburgh myself and I think it´s a beautiful city. Would you like me to show you around?
Manolo: I´d like that very much! Are you sure you don´t mind?
Alice: It will be a pleasure! Here´s my mobile number. Please call me, don’t think twice about it.
Manolo: Ok, I will. And, by the way, you have cured my headache!

At the same time as the conference there is a whisky festival. I hope to have a good time and to go out with Manolo every evening after the conference and visit Loch Ness as well. The conference lasts 2 days but Manolo is coming for a week. These extra 5 days are to prepare for the conference by going to the whisky festival.
At the airport
Manolo: Hello Jock.
Jock: Hello Manolo, how are you? It’s been a long time.
Manolo: Yes, too long and I’m very well.
Jock: Did you have a nice trip?
Manolo: No, I didn’t have a very nice trip. There was a fat man asleep next to me and he put his head on my shoulder.
Jock: Really? You don’t say.
Manolo: Do you remember our last meeting in Malaga?
Jock: How could I ever forget? I can still remember when that dog bit me.
Manolo: But remember you trod on the dog’s tail.
Jock: Not only the dog’s but on the foot of that incredible woman you met.
Manolo: I remember waking up with my under pants on over my trousers like Superman.
Jock: Medical conferences are usually like that.
Manolo: OK Jock let’s get out of here and we can continue our conversation in the taxi to the hotel.

Manolo meets a woman on the plane. She is sitting next to him. She is a doctor too and is going to the same conference in Edinburgh. She has dark hair, a dusky complexion, green eyes and a voluptuous figure. She’s Italian, from Sicily, and she’s on the same plane because she made a stop over in Malaga.
They haven’t spoken yet but as Lisa gets up to go to the loo she trips and falls onto his lap.
Lisa: I‘m so sorry. How embarrassing. I do apologise.
Manolo: Don’t worry, it’s OK, no problem. Are you OK?
Lisa: I’m fine thanks just a little nervous about flying.
Manolo: Don’t worry it’s just a little turbulence.
Lisa goes to the loo and returns to her seat.
Manolo: Are you going to Edinburgh on business or pleasure?
Lisa: Business but I plan to have a bit of fun too.
Manolo: Oh really! Me too. I’m going to a conference but having a bit of fun too doesn’t sound like a bad idea.
Lisa: A conference, I’m going to a conference too, maybe it’s the same one.
Manolo: Let’s hope so. I’m going to the Health conference.
Lisa: No, what a coincidence me too. I’m Lisa by the way, what’s your name?
Manolo: My name’s Manolo, it’s a pleasure to meet you.
Lisa: The pleasure is all mine.
Manolo: I’m a doctor and I’m one of the speakers at the conference.
Lisa: Oh really, how wonderful.
Manolo: Where are you staying in Edinburgh?
Lisa: In a hotel next to the conference centre, The Grand Hotel.
Manolo: Really, me too, what a stroke of luck.
Lisa: Sorry?
Manolo: Nothing, I mean, we can share a taxi to the hotel from the airport.
Lisa: Yes, why not, you don’t look too dangerous.
Manolo: Wait till you know me better.
Lisa: Am I going to get the chance to know you better?
Manolo: Errr… I think I need to go to the loo too.
Manolo rushes to the toilet and quickly takes off his wedding ring. He turns off his mobile phone just in case one the family tries to contact him and ruins his chances with Lisa.
Meanwhile Lisa checks her make up and tries not to think of her boyfriend Niko Caponi back in Sicily.
Manolo returns to his seat.
Lisa: Where were we?
Manolo: Well, you were asking if we were going to get the chance to know each other better.
Lisa: Oh yes………

Hey!! I’m so happy! Obama rocks! Who would ever have believed it! We are at the dawn of a new era! Congratulations Obama!
As you know, I was very actively involved in Obama’s election campaign. I heard about Manolo some months ago. Barack asked me to look for innovative ideas in the field of research and training using information and communication technologies in Europe.
I discovered the IAVANTE Foundation when I was doing my internet research on the subject. I sent an email asking for more detailed information on IAVANTE’s projects in eLearning. Manolo very kindly answered me.
I attended a congress at the European Centre for eLearning in Health in Maastricht last summer. Manolo was there too! We met and immediately hit it off!
